Job Summary:

The School of Architecture (SOA) in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at UT Arlington invites applications for one tenured or tenure-track faculty position in the School of Architecture. Appointment will be at the rank of assistant or associate professor with a start date no later than Fall 2025, but with a possible January 2025 start. We seek applicants with a focus in architectural history and theory, with strong research initiatives and record of experience in teaching. Candidates will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate architectural history/theory required courses, interdisciplinary electives, and conduct academic research to advance the objectives of the School of Architecture in a Carnegie 1- Very High Research University. The position may be offered the Directorship of the David Dillon Center for Texas Architecture, which focuses on architecture of the southwest region of the United States and encompasses architectural research, scholarship, communication, and public outreach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties will include undergraduate and graduate instruction in core curriculum for architectural history and theory, significant research, and creative scholarship in an area of specialization within the broader domain of global architectural history. The candidates will be anticipated to provide service within the institution and the academic community at large and while collaborating with landscape architecture, interior design, and planning and public affairs.

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications for this position include a PhD in architectural history and theory or related fields and evidence of academic research and publications. Evidence of the ability to secure external funding. Record of experience in teaching at the undergraduate/graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in art, architecture, historic preservation, and related fields. Familiarity with LMS (such as Canvas) and basic instructional technology is preferred. Ability to collaborate with landscape architecture, interior design, and planning/public affairs.

Department Information:

The School of Architecture in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs includes both the Architecture and Interior Design programs. The Department of Public Affairs and Planning and Landscape Architecture programs also reside within CAPPA.

CAPPA has forged significant partnerships throughout the DFW Metropolitan area that provide opportunities for our programs, including the Arlington Urban Design Center (AUDC), Center for Advanced Design, Research, and Evaluation (CADRE), Center for Metropolitan Density (CFMD), Center for Transportation, Equity, Decisions and Dollars (CTEDD), Digital Architecture Research Consortium (DARC), David Dillon Center for Texas Architecture (DDC), and the Institute of Urban Studies (IUS).

The School of Architecture offers a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (CIDA and NASAD accredited), Master of Architecture (NAAB accredited, and STEM designated), Master of Science in Building Technology, and an undergraduate minor in Architectural History. The SOA has an established record as a design school with strengths in community-engaged design including a robust design-build program.

The School of Architecture is active throughout the region thanks to a wide range of events sponsored by UT Arlington, Dallas Architectural Forum, Dallas Architecture and Design Exchange (AD-EX), AIA Chapters in Fort Worth and Dallas, and the Institute for Humanities' annual Festival of the City, among others.
