The Department of Mathematics is housed within the Academic Affairs division of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Santa Fe College. The department is dedicated to innovative instruction designed to develop the skills necessary to understand and apply mathematical concepts and reasoning, to help students understand and appreciate the role of mathematics in daily life and the community, and to analyze and interpret various types of data.

The department is seeking exceptional candidates for one or more full-time, nine-month Assistant Professor position(s) to promote and encourage student success through quality instruction in introductory mathematics. Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor will develop, prepare, and teach a variety of mathematical concepts. Teaching assignments may include the following: intermediate algebra, college algebra, precalculus algebra, trigonometry, calculus, introductory differential equations, liberal arts mathematics, logic, linear algebra, or introductory statistics. Faculty may be assigned to the Northwest campus or housed at any of the College's six educational centers. Course assignments may be during the day or evening, as well as taught online or using other distance learning formats. Full-time faculty have a primary nine (9) month contract based on teaching 15 credit hours in the Fall and 15 credit hours in the Spring. Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need.

This position's starting salary is $48,360 annually. Any salary amount above this is commensurate upon an individual's qualifications.

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.
  • Collaborates with department chair, faculty, staff, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum that cultivates the mastery of course content.
  • Effectively utilizes online course management systems such as CANVAS to deliver and enhance instruction.
  • Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in the delivery of instruction.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academic team.
  • Assists with the implementation of college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and collegewide committees as needed.
  • Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately documents student progress and maintains records including attendance, grading, and student learning outcomes.
  • Actively participates in all program accreditation activities.
  • Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students' progress in achieving the stated learning outcomes/objectives.
  • Maintains appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Chair, Mathematics

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A master's degree in Mathematics or a master's degree with eighteen (18) graduate hours in the qualifying fields of Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematical Physics.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: An educational background beyond the minimum. Teaching experience, particularly at the community college level, experience with instructional technology, and experience delivering quality instruction in multiple modalities, are also preferred.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
