Job Info

The University of Richmond Department of Computer Science invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August, 2025.

A Ph.D. in computer science is required for this position, and it must be completed by the start date. We welcome applicants from a variety of fields within computer science. The successful applicant is expected to commit to highly effective teaching at all levels of the curriculum and to maintain a productive research program that engages undergraduates in meaningful research outcomes while strengthening the inclusive environment to make computer science accessible to students from all backgrounds.

The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With approximately 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered, focused on preparing students "to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society."

The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the department and its programs, please see https://cs.richmond.edu/.

Applicants should apply online at http://jobs.richmond.edu and submit a single PDF file containing a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, and two statements: a teaching statement describing the candidate's teaching philosophy, experience, interests, and how they envision creating an inclusive environment and a sense of belonging in the CS classroom and STEM; and a research statement describing their research agenda, including how they envision creating an inclusive environment and a sense of belonging for research mentees. (The cover letter and the teaching statement should be no longer than 2 pages each, the research statement can be up to 4 pages.) For full consideration, applicants must summarize in their cover letter how their inclusive teaching and scholarly objectives will contribute to the Computer Science department in the context of an undergraduate liberal arts education at UR. The successful candidate's statements should highlight as well how undergraduates may be incorporated into the candidate's research program.

Candidates for this position may be asked, at a later date, to submit academic transcripts and the names and contact information for three references who will be asked to submit recommendation letters. Review of applications will commence on October 18 and continue until the position is filled.
