The Associate Analytical Scientist needs to have experience with method development using analytical techniques to evaluate thermoplastic polymers, rubbers, etc. They need to have experience with analysis or product development expertise of polymeric compounds which contain fillers, plasticizers, lubricants, flame retardants, etc. Be knowledgeable about physical and chemical separation techniques and can breakdown complex formulations. This position reports to the Analytical Lab Manager.
Job Responsibilities
* Apply polymer characterization expertise to develop new analytical instrument methods for analyzing roofing materials and other polymer systems
* Execute required routine and non-routine chromatography, spectroscopy, rheology, and thermal analysis (e.g. GC/MS, SEM, AFM, FT-IR, DMA, Parallel Plate Rheometer, DSC, TGA)
* Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and establishing new instrument capabilities that the business can leverage and leads to further understanding of our polymeric systems
* Responsible for building knowledge on fundamental properties of formulation components, such as polymers, filler, plasticizers, lubricants, flame retardants, catalysts, stabilizers, curatives, etc.
* Responsible for writing reports and communicating analytical test results to product managers, R&D Scientists, Engineers, production and warranty groups
* Provide technical leadership to junior analytical scientists and technicians
* Maintain a productive laboratory workspace, troubleshoot and repair instrumentation, and maintain safe laboratory practices and procedures

* MS or PhD in Analytical, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science, or related field.
* 2+ years of analytical experience, method development and/or laboratory experience in a relatable industry
* Hands on experience in polymer characterization using thermal analysis techniques (e.g. TGA, DSC, DMA, TMA, rheology) is highly desired
* Demonstrated knowledge of advanced analytical techniques related to LC/MS, HPLC, GPC, AFM, SEM, FTIR
* Strong background in polymer characterization techniques and understand structure property relationships of polymers and conduct relevant testing
* Proven record of innovation, including peer-reviewed publications and IP, in areas related to analytical and/or polymer chemistry (or related areas)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, scientists, and project management
