The Indiana University Bloomington Walter Center for Career Achievement (WCCA) provides top-quality career education programming and services to Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences students to help them transfer their diverse passions and talents into successful and rewarding careers. The Associate Director for Employer Relations, Media School position will advance this mission by developing and executing employer outreach, recruitment, and relationship management strategies that produce high quality full-time and internship opportunities for students in the Media School.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes outreach, recruitment and relationship management strategies that produce high-quality, full-time job and internship opportunities for students in the Media School.
  • Travels to key recruitment markets to conduct on-site visits with current and prospective employer contacts and College/Media School alumni to increase engagement with on-campus recruiting opportunities.
  • Uses expert understanding of Media and Arts and Sciences structure to develop and implement customized and efficient strategies to meet employers' hiring needs.
  • Regularly communicates information on available recruiting programs and services to current and prospective employer contacts.
  • Serves on the WCCA Employer Relations Team charged with coordinating employer outreach and development responsibilities across the College's 3 schools and 3 divisions.
  • Facilitates employer involvement in the WCCA employer partners program, identifies new partners, solicits participation, and ensures that WCCA programs and services meet and exceed employer partner expectations.
  • Collaborates with College and Media alumni relations and advancement staff to ensure employer partner-related outreach is highly coordinated and in-line with larger Media School development priorities.
  • Implements standard operation procedures associated with use of the Handshake Career Services Management system.
  • Ensures accurate records of employer relations contacts, outreach efforts, and student engagement in employer-related activities are maintained.
  • Regularly writes reports and presents information on the Media/College's employer relations strategy and activity to internal and external audiences.
  • Identifies and leverages existing and emerging technology solutions to create opportunities for students and employers to connect virtually.
  • Develops annual programming plans in collaboration with Career Coaches to create opportunities for students to explore career fields, develop professional contacts, and build marketable experience.
  • Creates opportunities for current students to connect with prospective employers and Media/College alumni by securing employer and alumni involvement in on- and off-campus networking events, including but not limited to information sessions, career-related workshops, receptions, and site visits.
  • Plans and facilitates multiple career-related events, workshops and classroom presentations each semester on topics relating to job and internship search strategies and the career development process.
  • Collaborates with relevant student and staff leaders to provide tailored career programing and networking event opportunities.
  • Builds strong relationships with IU leadership, program directors, and directors of undergraduate studies that produce expert understanding of academic departments, programs, centers and related graduate outcomes.
  • Meets with faculty on a regular basis, as a representative of WCCA and the Media School, to present information on relevant employer relations and development efforts.
  • Collaborates with employer relations professionals from across campus to shape campus recruitment policies. Plans collaborative recruitment programs and events and contributes to the execution, expansion and quality improvement of the on-campus recruitment experience.
  • Partners with senior staff in the Academic Engagement and Student Experience unit in the College of Arts and Sciences and Media School Administration to identify and execute collaborative programs and initiatives that provide highly-coordinated and collaborative student support services, which create a seamless experience for Media School students spanning admissions, recruitment, orientation, academic advising, career services, alumni relations.
General Responsibilities
  • Plans, coordinates, and markets on-campus recruitment events to connect students with potential employers.
  • Assists with managing relationships with employers and alumni through regular communication.
  • Assists with implementing large-scale and/or off-campus events and participates in planning, employer relations, student marketing, event execution, and post-event evaluation.
  • Helps coordinate the logistics and scheduling of information sessions, on-campus interviews, class presentations, and networking events hosted by the career center, featuring alumni and employer representatives.
  • Oversees the online job and internship posting process and makes critical decisions during the review process to ensure all postings adhere to office and campus policies.
  • Interprets and enforces policies pertinent to third-party recruiting and other employment conditions.
  • Reports and analyzes recruiting data for detailed, annual evaluation.
  • Meets regularly with colleagues to assist with analyzing recruitment trends and plan employer relations strategies that enhance existing relationships and identify new opportunities.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree (preferably in Higher Education and Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Human Resources, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Production, or related field.)
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years in employer relations, career consulting, or related field
Preferred
  • 2 years of work experience in a student services, recruiting, or a related field, with preference given to experience in Journalism, Public Relations or Media Production industries

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
