Ast Professor - Fixed Term
Position SummaryThe Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program and Department of Medicine at Michigan State University invite applications for a Fixed Term Faculty position (non-tenure) at a rank commensurate with experience. The appointment will be an annual year, 12-month position. This individual will be responsible for in-person and online instruction at the undergraduate (BLD 435, BLD 435L, and BLD 434) and graduate level in the areas of immunohematology, immunology, and histocompatibility. The teaching load would be approximately 2 courses per semester. MSU BLD offers two undergraduate degrees, Biomedical Laboratory Science and Medical Laboratory Science (a NACCLS accredited program) and three graduate degrees - an MA in Biomedical Laboratory Science, an MS in Clinical Laboratory Science, and an MS in Biomedical Laboratory Operations. This individual would also be expected to perform duties commensurate with those as a laboratory director or director in training as proscribed by CMS/CLIA/ACHI. 51% of this position would entail teaching in the BLD program, and 49% would entail serving as an associate laboratory director/director in training in the Immunohematology and Serology Laboratory. Additional responsibilities include advising, professional engagement, service, and outreach. The salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience.

Summary of Health RisksExposure to human blood, serum, tissue and other body fluids and materials covered under "Universal Precautions." This covers employees at MSU that have a reasonable anticipated risk of exposure to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. This includes Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and other bloodborne pathogens that are included in MSU's Bloodborne Pathogen Program as outlined in the Exposure Control Plan (ECP). Job classifications, in which all or some of the employees have potential occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, are listed in Appendix A of the ECP. The ECP is revised on an annual basis and copies of the most recent edition are available on the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) website at www.ehs.msu.edu The MSU Exposure Control Plan requires all employees to attend an initial training as well as an annual retraining on bloodborne pathogens.
