Biobank Logistic Engineer - Product Sustainability, Quality, & Logistics
Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development, Product Sustainability, Quality & Logistics in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking a talented, experienced individual to provide logistic oversight at the Scientist level. We are currently seeking to fill new positions to support our growing research portfolio.
Position Summary
This position involves working closely with scientists from various therapeutic area teams to manage the logistics and execution of analytical test plans, as well as to implement strategies throughout the drug development process, from early to late stages. The role is essential for ensuring the efficient and compliant handling of biological samples within our biobank. The successful candidate will oversee logistics operations, maintaining the integrity and quality of samples from collection to distribution. They will collaborate extensively with biomarker leads, internal in vivo and in vitro research and development labs, clinical trial operations, non-clinical pharmacology and safety teams, data management, biospecimen sample logistics, biomarker data scientists, and external laboratory vendors/contract research organizations (CROs).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Sample Management: Enable the collection, transportation, storage, and distribution of biological samples, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and quality control measures.

Logistics Coordination: Develop and implement strategies to optimize the flow of samples and materials within the biobank, collaborating with researchers, laboratory staff, and external partners.

Quality Assurance and Inventory Control: Maintain high standards of sample integrity through rigorous quality control procedures and manage inventory systems to track sample locations, quantities, and conditions.

Data and Document Management: Ensure accurate documentation and data entry related to sample handling and logistics operations and contribute to document management by facilitating draft reviews and preparing documents.

Project and Timeline Management: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate and manage logistics for analytical plans, maintain project timelines, and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- BS/MS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with a minimum of 4 years industry experience.
- Ability and comfort with learning/using lab automation, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), and online Inventory databases.
- Experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably within a laboratory setting.
- Established technical laboratory skills (pipetting, aseptic technique, unit conversions, adherence to protocols, etc).
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Capable of working with minimal oversight in a cross-functional environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
- Experience with automated high throughput sample preparation and analytical assays.
- Skills and experience in experimental design, technical problem solving and continuous improvement.

The placement of this position will be primarily in Kalamazoo, MI. Occasional travel to other Zoetis sites may also be requested.
The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
