Job Summary
The primary function of the Chief of Staff is to advise and assist the Executive Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police (EDPSCOP), and Command Staff on a wide variety of campus and external issues, initiatives, and policies directly impacting the division. This position also serves as the Chief Communications Officer to build and maintain a modern communications and engagement operation with a focus on building positive relationships between the police department and the community, advising on the improvement of the Division's customer service, and promoting the proliferation of accurate information about public safety and the police department's operations.     1. Physical Requirements
    The position requires reliability of service. Position requires use of a computer terminal, dial a phone, digital camera, video recorder, audio recorders, and tripods. Potential to stand for long periods of time, walking for long periods, bending/stooping under objects.
    2. Work Environment
    Work is performed primarily in an office setting although on-site visits to events and sponsors are required.

    Travel Requirements
    10% Traveling to and from meetings as well as to interviews if off site.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's degree 2. Minimum four (4) years of experience in supporting Public Safety management and administrative operations with a demonstrated record of success in administration and problem resolution.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Strong communication, writing and editing skills.
    • Ability to work under a tight deadline.
    • Strong skill set in dealing with a wide variety of individuals in stressful situations.
    • High level interpersonal skills, including tact, discretion, good judgment, diplomacy, and flexibility.
    • Understanding of the Urbana-Champaign campus academic and administrative structure.
    • Ability to work independently under tight deadline pressure is essential as well as the ability to exercise excellent judgment and discretion, especially in the handling of confidential and/or sensitive issues.
    Appointment Information

    This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 10/1/2024. The minimum salary for this position is $90,000. Salary will will be determined by candidate experience and qualifications.
