Who We Are:

The Department of Space Instruments and Payloads is responsible for the mechanical, electrical, and software development of spaceflight instrumentation, structures, and avionics. We design and fabricate custom solutions to answer or solve a complex situation not yet delivered by industry, as well as leverage our heritage platforms to accommodate a variety of payloads. The Software group provides embedded software design, implementation, testing, and software task management for software involved projects across the division such as the APS-R and LEXI spacecraft.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Support design, analysis, documentation, verification, and test of embedded software for space applications including command and control, data storage, signal processing, and communications.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle design for related flight software in high reliability systems for space applications; perform analysis and implement designs from concept to delivery.
  • Work with team of engineers across the technical spectrum.
  • Effective and proactive communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide task updates, recommend technical solutions, ask questions, create technical documentation, and support client interactions.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, build, and debug embedded software solutions for a variety of spacecraft systems.
  • Support simulation, analysis, and test of software to verify technical performance.
  • Complete documentation efforts associated with embedded software designs, including specifications, user manuals, and test plans.
  • Interact with team members to discuss technical solutions to problems.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the department's and division's software processes and methodologies.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors or a Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
  • 0-3 years: BS candidates with relevant academic research and/or internship experience or work experience
  • Experience with C/C++ preferred.
  • Knowledge of Python, Linux, RTOS/VxWorks, Networking and Communication, Source Control, and Continuous Integration.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
