Beacon Hill's client, a global law firm, is seeking a contract attorney to support the firm's Billing Department and Office of the General Counsel.

  • Job Title: Contract Attorney - Outside Counsel Guidelines & Billing Review
  • Location: Remote but must reside in California or Washington. Additionally, candidates must be admitted to the bar in the state where they live and practice.
  • Start: As soon as possible
  • Duration: 3-4 months (concurrent employment not permitted)
Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Contract Attorney to partner with our Assistant General Counsel and Director of Client Guidelines on a temporary basis to help review, analyze, and tag outside counsel guidelines, billing procedures, and other legal terms in accordance with company policy through the Intapp Terms contract management system. This role requires a strong attention to detail, familiarity with legal terms and billing practices, and an in-depth understanding of outside counsel agreements. This position is perfect for an experienced attorney with a background in corporate law, legal operations, or billing compliance.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership (in good standing) in the state where you live and practice (California or Washington).
  • 3+ years of experience in a legal environment (plaintiffs' work not permitted), preferably with a focus on legal billing, outside counsel management, or contract review.
  • Strong knowledge of outside counsel billing practices, guidelines, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with legal operations and legal tech tools (e.g., e-billing platforms, contract management software, Intapp Time, and Intapp Terms, preferred but not required).
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to identify discrepancies in complex documents.
  • Ability to review and analyze voluminous, dense legal documents.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience reviewing outside counsel guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Intapp Time and Intapp Terms.
  • Familiarity with e-billing platforms such as CounselLink, TyMetrix, or similar.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review, analyze, and tag outside counsel agreements, including fee structures, payment terms, and scope of services, using a designated set of categorized templates to ensure alignment with the firm's legal and financial policies.
  • Add summary notes when and where applicable with guidance from the Assistant General Counsel and Director of Client Guidelines.
  • Work closely with the Assistant General Counsel and Director of Client Guidelines to ensure seamless communication and resolution of any discrepancies or gaps in client guidelines, and legal or billing-related concerns.
