The Office of the Vice Provost for Research & Scholarship, Office of Research Administration (ORA) has a job opportunity for a Data Broker Manager to work at the University of Miami.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Data Broker Manager assists with the re-engineering efforts of the Office of the Vice Provost for Research & Scholarship, Office of Research Administration, including the standardization of the clinical data request process and primarily, the fulfillment of such requests. This role also plays a leading role in the analysis, development, and refinement of appropriate practices and implementation of such practices, which includes conducting problem analysis and recommending solutions. This position works closely with team members, as well as other departments, to understand, clarify and satisfy service requests.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises the operational aspects of the data request fulfillment process.
  • Reviews data requests for compliance requirements and technical feasibility.
  • Performs and reviews data extraction and reports to satisfy requests.
  • Interacts with other groups, including Information Technology and Regulatory/Compliance, as well as internal team members, to clarify and satisfy data requests.
  • Leads the development and refinement of process documentation.
  • Researches and recommends tools for data analysis, manipulation, and extraction.
  • Reviews the storage and transmission of data.
  • Develops and refines secure data handling methods, including data storage and transmission.
  • Disseminates safe data handing practices to data recipients.
  • Develops and evaluates previously refined data and selects from a range of alternatives to determine the appropriate action.
  • Interacts with all on the request chain to determine intent and meet business or research needs.
  • Develops or assists in the development of work plans and task sequencing.
  • Recommends hardware and software needed for optimum solution to business problems.
  • Modifies designs to take maximum advantage of existing equipment resources.
  • Coordinates with internal team members and other groups directly involved in fulfillment process.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Social Sciences or related field.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required. Experience in academic or healthcare environment preferred. Any appropriate combination of relevant education and/or experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to respond in a timely and effective manner with clinical and research community.
  • Ability to foster relationships with requestors and allied regulatory business units.
  • Skill in collecting, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).

Department Specific Functions

  • Document all clinical requests in Service Now platform.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of R programming or Tableau.
  • Strong knowledge or Certification in Information Privacy and/or Security, especially HIPAA Privacy & Security.
  • Knowledge of human subject research, including reviewing research protocols.
  • Serve as member of the Data Security Ancillary Committee.
  • Knowledge of clinical systems, especially Epic electronic medical record system.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, including ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Serve as member of Data Security Ancillary Committee.
