1. Demonstrates competence in the nutrition screening of in-house patients
o Assesses patients with-in 48 hours of admission
o Performs re-assessments per protocol of policy
o Accurately completes assessment forms
2. Demonstrates ability to provide diet counseling
o Tracks patients who need to have diet instructions
o Educates patients appropriately on their diets
o Provides appropriate discharge information on the diet
3. Demonstrates ability to conduct calorie counts
o Records % of food eaten at meals in patient's rooms
o Calculates calorie counts accurately
o Records in medical record in timely fashion
4. Demonstrates the ability to conduct meal rounds and test trays.
o Conducts meal rounds per protocol
o Conducts tests trays per protocol
5. Demonstrates ability to conduct the room service program.
o Accurately monitors patient choices to diet restrictions
o Assists patients for menu selection on the following diets: protein restrictions, gluten-free diet, 1 gm. Na+

Qualifications
Experience Minimum Required
o Registered Diet Tech
Experience Preferred/Desired
• 1+ month in acute care setting
Education Minimum Required
• Minimum of 2 years of either a 2-to-4-year nutrition program
Education Preferred/Desired
• 2-year ADA accredited diet tech program
