About the Role:
The Director of Network Planning & Optimization will play a critical role in building and scaling the infrastructure that supports last-mile operations. This individual will lead a cross-functional team responsible for integration engineering, network planning, data science, and customer support. The role will involve designing, optimizing, and continuously improving our delivery network to meet business needs, while maintaining high standards of operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The leader will ensure the successful integration of systems, tools, and processes across engineering, planning, and customer-facing functions. Additionally, the individual will also lead a team of planners, data scientists, and analysts to ensure that our delivery topology, routing, and capacity management are optimized for performance and cost-efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of logistics, data-driven decision-making, and experience with last-mile operations. We are seeking a seasoned leader with a strong technical background, a strategic mindset, and a customer-centric approach to managing internal teams and external relationships.
What the Candidate Will Do:
Engineering Leadership: - Lead the Integration Engineering team responsible for building and scaling technology platforms.
- Collaborate with product, software engineering, and network planning teams to design, implement, and maintain integrations that optimize parcel operations.
- Ensure integration solutions align with the company's overall business goals and technical architecture.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of systems and processes.
- Utilize the latest integration technologies, APIs, and data exchange standards in the parcel shipping and logistics industry.
- Provide technical leadership on integration projects, identifying and mitigating potential risks and challenges.
- Build and manage a high-performing team of integration engineers, planners, and support specialists.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the team remains responsive, agile, and customer-centric, even in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Network Planning & Topology Optimization: - Develop and oversee the strategy for network topology, including the design and optimization of routing, sortation centers, 3rd Party Hubs, and last-mile delivery stations.
- Manage the expansion of network coverage to meet customer demand and business growth, ensuring the network is scalable, reliable, and cost-effective.
- Continuously assess and optimize transportation routes and delivery schedules to improve speed, reduce costs, and increase service levels.
- Implement scenario planning and simulation models to evaluate potential network changes and their impacts on cost and performance.
Data Science & Analytics: - Lead a team of data scientists and analysts to develop predictive models that optimize network performance, forecast demand, and identify potential bottlenecks or inefficiencies.
- Leverage machine learning and advanced analytics to optimize delivery times, route efficiency, and resource allocation.
- Develop algorithms and tools to provide actionable insights from data, supporting both strategic and tactical decision-making.
- Collaborate with technology teams to ensure data systems and analytical platforms support network optimization efforts.
- Develop rate card and transit algorithms to optimize service, cost, pricing, and reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the last-mile network, incorporating feedback from operations teams and customers.
- Identify opportunities for automation and technology integration to streamline network planning and optimization processes.
Account Management & Customer Support: - Collaborate with the account management team to deliver technical solutions that meet customer needs and ensure successful integrations.
- Act as a strategic technical advisor to key accounts, driving customer success through custom integration solutions.
- Partner with customer support teams to ensure seamless resolution of technical issues and maintain high service standards.
- Drive initiatives to improve customer satisfaction by addressing integration challenges and delivering solutions that enhance client operations.
Business Intelligence & Reporting: - Create and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the network, including metrics such as delivery times, cost per delivery, network capacity utilization, and service reliability.
- Lead the development of dashboards and reporting tools to provide real-time insights into network performance for leadership and operations teams.
- Conduct regular business reviews with key stakeholders, providing insights into network health, performance trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with the finance team to monitor and forecast network costs, ensuring alignment with business objectives and budgetary goals.
Cross-Functional Leadership and Collaboration: - Work closely with the sales, operations, product, technology, finance, and customer service teams to align network planning with overall business objectives.
- Partner with the product team to ensure that the needs of the network are reflected in product roadmaps and solutions that drive operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with procurement and logistics teams to manage relationships with carriers, ensuring that the network can meet capacity and performance demands.
- Drive cross-functional alignment and ensure smooth handoffs between engineering, operations, and customer-facing teams
- Serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert on all aspects of last-mile network optimization, bringing innovative ideas and best practices to the organization
Basic Qualifications: - BS or MS in Engineering, Data Science, Operations, or related fields; MBA or equivalent is a plus
- 7+ years of experience in logistics, engineering, network planning, or a related field, with a focus on logistics.
- Expertise in data-driven network planning and topology optimization.
- Strong business acumen and ability to align technical solutions with strategic business objectives.
- Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional teams, including network planning.
- Experience in last-mile logistics, including experience with eCommerce or high-growth delivery businesses.
- Demonstrated success in network design and optimization, particularly in large-scale logistics or transportation systems.
- Experience in strategic planning, capacity management, and cost optimization for logistics networks.
- Ability to translate complex data insights into actionable strategies for improving operational efficiency.
- Strong understanding of transportation networks, freight logistics, and supply chain integration solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale projects with cross-functional teams and manage complex technical implementations.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, influencing, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience scaling engineering teams in a high-growth, dynamic environment.

- Strong technical expertise in integration engineering, with a deep understanding of APIs, application integration, and technology platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of data science, machine learning, and predictive modeling techniques for logistics operations.
- Experience working with enterprise customers, providing technical account management, and delivering tailored solutions.
- Familiarity with key freight technologies, including TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and FMS (Fleet Management Systems), is a plus
- Experience with network design tools, simulation modeling, and data analytics platforms (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Tableau, etc.).
- Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) and optimization software.
- Experience managing relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and carrier networks.
