Job Description:
The Operations Division of the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is looking for an Electronic Technician Leader. JOB DUTIES:

  • Receive or initiate work assignment schedules, and assign, coordinate, and guide the work assignments of other Electronics Technicians in accordance with established workflow/assignment requirements.
  • Review and report on the work performance of co-workers to determine the overall conformity to established timetables and quality standards, and to document and communicate employee production levels and training needs.
  • Train Electronic Technicians, as directed, in specific tasks, job practices, and procedures of the electronics technician trade to improve and maintain the performance levels of these employees.
  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance for electronic equipment to ensure that necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts are made prior to malfunctions or safety hazards occurring.
  • Estimate time, cost, and materials needed to install, replace, repair, or modify electronic equipment to provide others with information necessary to determine whether work should be done.
  • Record time spent, materials used, supplies and equipment purchased, and other necessary information to accurately determine the cost of work performed.
  • Coordinate with supervisory personnel and agency staff to discuss the assigned electronic installation or modification work to determine the most appropriate locations of equipment.
  • Order supplies, materials, and equipment to maintain adequate stock levels of commonly used items and obtain unusual or special purpose items for specific jobs to be performed.
  • Install and maintain highly technical electronic equipment such as traffic signals, computers, microprocessors, P25 radio systems, CCTV/RWIS towers, PBX telephone systems, microwave communication devices, programmable message boards DMS/PDMS, Survey GPS reference stations,
  • Analyze and diagnose problems on electronic equipment through the use of schematic drawings and equipment prints and accomplish necessary repairs.
  • Test new equipment and modify it to fit specialized user needs.
  • Design and build circuits and specialized equipment.
  • Test, repair, and calibrate test equipment and specialized vehicle equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Training and experience in skilled electronics technician work.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience leading teams. Experience in assigning and coordinating work assignments.

Other:
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
  • Tools, materials, and advanced methods of electronics installation, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Principles and theory of electricity.
  • Quality and adaptability of various materials used to complete assigned tasks.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electronics repair trade.
  • Agency policies and procedures.

Skill in:
  • Coordinating the work of others in maintaining an efficient workflow.

Ability to:
  • Schedule, assign, guide, and evaluate the work of other Electronics Technicians.
  • Perform skilled work in the electronics repair trade.
  • Determine the materials and equipment necessary to install, repair, and maintain electronic equipment.
  • Construct and modify equipment for initial installations and specialized functions.
  • Use test equipment to locate and repair equipment defects.
  • Interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints.
  • Establish work priorities.
  • Determine appropriate work schedules.
