Job Description
Key Responsibilities

  • Identifies overpayments, researches documentation, and prepares the refund request for insurance companies and or patient refunds.
  • Analyzes all documentation provided to verify all payments and adjustments are posted to the account accurately. Performs any corrections necessary to adjustments posted to patients' accounts, and refers accounts to Cash Posting Department if corrections are needed.
  • Works overpayments requested by refund letters, faxes and telephone requests. Contacts insurance representatives to verify coverage and benefits. Maintains organized notes and documentation for all requested refunds.
  • Researches all credit balance accounts to ensure balance is actual credit prior to processing refunds for both insurance and patient amounts, including receiving refund checks, producing letters to patients and sending out checks and letters.
  • Reviews checks received from accounting for accuracy. Verifies checks are aligned with required documentation; ensures each account is notated with check number and amount, and mailed to appropriate insurance companies.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Three years' cash posting, refund or accounts receivable experience
  • Knowledge of payment reimbursement rules and contractual requirements from various payers
