Position Description
This position monitors and maintains building fire systems. The fire specialist will also ensure the operation of the fire systems, meshing with building operations including but not limited to; the automated Access Control, Security Systems, and other pertinent building systems. This positions main purpose is the maintenance of critical fire detection/alarm hardware within the building(s), monitoring the alarm systems, working with fire contractors, fire marshals, documenting performance, and improving the life cycle of equipment. Responds to fire and mechanical equipment alarms, also resolves fire trouble codes. Help monitor/assist with fire and security computer alarms and emergency situations requiring immediate action. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Major/Essential Functions
- Knowledge of fire alarm wiring methods is essential. Performs troubleshooting on opens, shorts, and ground faults and on all facets of the fire alarm system wiring. Removing and replacing smoke detectors, horn/strobes and fire pull stations while maintaining the integrity of the system. Install and troubleshoot relay control circuits and power supplies.
- Performs maintenance and repairs as required on the building fire sprinkler system. This includes lubricating and testing the building fire pump. Shutdown and drain for contractor work, replacing leaking sprinkler heads, and piping as the need arises.
- Estimates potential internal construction projects and service work. Works in coordination with contractors and other foreman on all matters pertaining to construction and job scheduling.
- Performs PM, inspections, and repairs as required on fire Alarm, Fire Suppression and security systems and related equipment. This includes but is not limited to lubricating and testing the building fire pumps, shutdown and draining of suppression systems as needed for contractor and internal work, replacing leaking sprinkler heads and piping, troubleshooting wiring, field devices, and relay controls.

Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years' experience with fire system control in a campus/institutional setting AND two years' experience working with spreadsheets or database computer programs. Job related vocational training or other education might be substituted on a year for year basis. College level engineering or electrical/electronic study desired.
