Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, Indiana's first community mental health center, provides comprehensive care for emotional and behavioral problems, including severe mental illness and substance abuse. The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Centeroffers both inpatient and outpatient services, including several outreach centers as well as clinic- and community-based services.

Job Role Summary

The role of the Assessment and Intervention Center (AIC) Housing Specialist is to provide engagement and skills training to residents referred to and temporarily residing at the Assessment and Intervention Center. This position assists on-site Medical Specialist staff in the admission, on-boarding, and orientation of new Assessment and Intervention Center residents. The Housing Specialist ensures a safe milieu through regular engagement with residents, non-violent crisis intervention, and structured individual and group activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Embraces, understands, and operates under the Recovery Model, including AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) and the spirit of motivational interviewing.
• Engages residents using Motivational Interviewing and framed by the Recovery Model to acclimate them to the Assessment and Intervention Center and next steps in their recovery.
• Provides crisis management and emergency interventions including but not limited to: CPR and CPI.
• Can assist on-site case management staff in providing targeted case management, especially as it relates to linkage to treatment resources.
• May provide transportation in company provided vehicle as directed by treatment team and guided by program necessity.
• Advocates for residents to ensure access to needed services which includes developing community relationships and resources
• Teaches skills to residents that aid in their behavioral health and/or substance use, in addition to reintegrating to the community.
• Ensures clear communication to Assessment and Intervention Center housing team and leadership of resident success, barriers, and progress.
• Performs selected nursing technician procedures consistent with Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, including but not limited to: assisting with self-administration of medications, performing vital signs, collecting specimens, monitoring nutritional status and other such duties as assigned by supervisor and within scope of practice
• Establishes and maintains a safe environment at all times through on-going assessment of milieu/appointment environment
• Accepts personal responsibility for development that includes 20 hours of training per year as per Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center and Eskenazi Health policies
• Provides written/electronic documentation by end of shift on every resident interaction where an intervention occurs or observation is completed

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent, plus
o one year of experience in Behavioral Health or Substance Use Disorder treatment;
o or certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT);
o or equivalent post-secondary education such as a Bachelor's or Associate's degree
• Valid Indiana driver's license that meets Eskenazi Health's driving policy requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge
o Basic knowledge of behavioral health and/or addiction
o Basic knowledge of medical terminology
o Knowledge of basic learning principles
o Knowledge of community resources
o Knowledge of hands-on resident care
• Skills
o Familiarity and comfort with basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
o Must meet the following basic competencies as applicable including CPR, CPI, Medications, Legal, Addictions, Age-Related
• Abilities
o Willingness to learn and grow within a person-centered treatment environment
