JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently recruiting for an Instrumentation Department Manager (Engineering and Design) in our Houston, TX Office.

Ensure the Instrumentation Departments are equipped to provide engineering and project delivery excellence. Recruit, develop, and retain the right talent; provide them with work processes and systems to deliver safe and effective engineering solutions. Position the department as a center of excellence in the global engineering community.

Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship required

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • Recruit, hire, develop, and retain qualified and highly motivated staff. Complete performance reviews, career conversations, and competency assessments to support department improvement and personnel growth
  • Lead department initiative development and implementation to support continuous improvement and predictable execution. Prepare the department for the challenges of future projects as technology, Client requirements and project execution methods change.
  • Guide the Instrumentation leads, engineers and designers to resolve engineering and designing problems in accordance with industry principles, codes and standards
  • Guide the Instrumentation leads, engineers and designers to collaborate with their construction partners and respond quickly with solutions for construction site issues.
  • Develop home office manhour estimates, assign personnel to projects, provide staffing forecasts, and approve timesheets. Build and maintain relationships with Project Directors and Project Managers to ensure that project support (including staffing) is aligned with BU strategic objectives.
  • Provide staff with training and access to technical expertise/support to ensure success on projects
  • Provide department with access to procedures, processes, reliable reference material, software, systems and lessons learned to support safe, efficient, and effective engineering delivery on projects.
  • Ensure quality and assurance systems familiarity, participation, and compliance across the department
  • Provide direct supervision to discipline engineering staff, including oversight of job performance, salary administration, and professional development.
  • Effectively manage personnel issues in partnership with project management and People & Organization leadership.
  • Lead and manage the department, including salary administration and management of department overhead costs.
  • Oversee design efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily on time and within budget


QUALIFICATIONS

Specific qualifications as follows:
  • Discipline background - Requires full understanding of electrical, instrument and process controls discipline delivery requirements including thorough knowledge of systems, tools, and work processes, as well as thorough understanding of interface requirements with adjacent disciplines
  • Prefer 15 to 25 years' experience with design of power and control systems for heavy industrial installations, primarily in the Oil and Gas onshore and offshore markets and/or process and chemicals industries.
  • Previous experience (>10years) in instrumentation design in the field of Consulting Engineering in North America
  • Previous experience (>10years) in instrumentation design in an EPC organization in North America
  • Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with clients and staff in a team environment
  • Proven ability to lead a team of professionals through periods of organizational change and challenging business environments
  • Registered Professional Engineer, required
  • B. Sc. In Engineering or equivalent
  • Willing to travel up to 25%
  • U.S. Only: Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship required
