Job Description

Position Overview: The IT Network Engineer will provide technical expertise in the network infrastructure space ensuring both security and high availability of systems in support of the company's operations. The engineer is responsible, in coordination with the Field Services Manager, of overall network architecture design. This role will serve as a subject matter expert pertaining to network technologies, including equipment configuration and security best practices. The Engineer will provide technical support to employees who experience network related issues that were not able to be resolved by the primary Help Desk team. Support will generally occur remotely but may require travel onsite to branch locations depending on the given situation. The Engineer will be responsible for project management of mid-level IT projects within their area of expertise as well as mentorship and training to more junior team members with the support of the Field Services Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Include but are not limited to:

• Design, configure, and deploy network solutions using Fortinet equipment.
• Support existing Cisco Meraki & Watchguard equipment through multiyear vendor transition.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network reliability, security, and performance.
• Monitor network performance, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions promptly.
• Maintain network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and processes.
• Perform firewall policy auditing and utilize change management procedures to ensure secure footprint across the organization.
• Implement and manage routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP) and network security solutions.
• Coordinate & conduct regular network maintenance, including software updates and hardware upgrades.
• Provide technical support to end-users and resolve network-related problems.
• Serve as escalation point for help desk team on network and internet related issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Fortinet and Cisco Meraki equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of Watchguard equipment a plus.
• Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, EIGRP).
• Strong knowledge of SD-WAN policies and configuration.
• Proficiency with network security principles and best practices.
• Familiarity with scripting and automation tools for system administration tasks.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects from inception to completion.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Relevant certifications such as Fortinet NSE (FCP-NS / FCSS-NS), Cisco CCNA / CCNP, and CompTIA Network+ / Project+ / Security+ are highly desirable.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
• At least five years of experience in Network Engineering role or Network Administrator role with engineering responsibilities.
  • 5+ years of experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

• Travel as needed (approximately 5%).
