Position Overview

This is a skilled position requiring the individual to be a licensed electrician and to perform installs and repairs of electrical systems and other electrical components pertaining to industrial machinery and equipment.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Provides production support in the form of specialized electrical and mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to equipment and machinery.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs plant instrumentation systems and interactive plant controls.
  • Repairs electrical power distribution equipment and programmable logic control systems.
  • Designs electrical systems for construction projects; orders needed parts; instals electrical equipment and controls; and tests systems for proper operation.
  • Operates frequency generators, oscilloscopes and analytical meters, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Tests, calibrates and adjusts electrical equipment and measuring systems.
  • Performs welding, pipe fitting, fabrication, plumbing,, motor alignment and related repair as needed.
  • Prepares required paperwork regarding repairs, preventative maintenance work and equipment installations as specified.
  • Performs proper check out and handling of storeroom materials.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to work shifts including weekends, afternoons, or graveyard required.
  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent in General Education
  • Preferred Associates degree in related field
  • Journeyman Electrician License
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in performing industrial related electrical and/or instrumentation repair and maintenance responsibilities
  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication and listening skills
  • Knowledge of contactors and starters, motors and motor controls (hookup and sizing), AC/DC motor controls, high voltage splicing, transformers (hookup and sizing)
  • motor bearings and shaft alignment,pneumatics, hydraulics, power distribution and controls, terminating techniques, etc.
  • Proficiency with instrumentation and control systems.
  • Skill in reading and using electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Must be skilled in welding, motor alignment and fabrication.
  • Ability to install various types of equipment and machinery in the plant.
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings and diagrams for maintenance and repair jobs.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform arithmetic which may include algebra.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow instructional and maintenance manuals.
  • Skills needed include analytical, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Work requires walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling workin in an awkward position and occasionally lifting objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Also requires working on jobs in high places (up to 215 feet high).

Environmental Requirements

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 90 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
