Job Summary

The MLT (Machinery Lubrication Technician) position is responsible for equipment lubrication, inspection, and proactive maintenance activities for all lubricated mechanical equipment.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Follow daily lube routes and work orders
  • Conduct "break ins" on equipment
  • Operate manual or air assisted lubricant dispensing equipment.
  • Select appropriate filtration media, and/or filter element by type, for a fixed or portable filter system.
  • Perform visual inspections on equipment and provide written reports of conditions and deficiencies
  • Service mobile equipment a "portable air compressors/welding machines"
  • Use of tools and equipment for routine and non-routine lubrication functions
  • Draining and cleaning of reservoirs
  • Filling and maintaining level on reservoirs
  • Changing filters and breathers on reservoirs
  • Remove covers, clean out reservoirs, and replace covers, including replacing a gasket or creating a gasket using available materials.
  • Check and top-up reservoirs using either automatic or manual top-up tools.
  • Take oil samples
  • Install piping and fittings for filtration and sample collection requirements.
  • Grease relubrication with manual and automatic dispensing equipment
  • Labeling and tagging reservoirs, equipment, inventory, and delivery containers
  • Troubleshoot common lubrication-related equipment problems
  • Report in writing any discrepancies or conditions that require corrective action
  • Monitor email and/or other computer systems to check for work orders, schedule or print routes, acknowledge work orders, etc.

Qualifications

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; AA degree, certification or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 18 months on site and/or five or more years of experience
  • Demonstrate basic process knowledge of machinery maintenance
  • Able to perform all normal job duties with minimal supervisory task oversight

Individuals may need to sit, stand, or stoop as needed. This job may require the following: walking on an unleveled surface periodically throughout the day; reaching above shoulder heights and below the waist as required to work on equipment or store materials throughout the workday; enter confined spaces; climb ladders and stairs to various heights; lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. Proper lifting techniques are required.

Primary environment: Maintenance workshop and inside the plant within the manufacturing units. Requires exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, respirator, safety glasses with side shields, hard hat, steel-toed boots, and mandatory hearing protection.
