SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineer designs, analyzes, and maintains mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards. Utilizes technical instruments to develop specifications for new parts, modifications, or prototypes. Identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products. Utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components and communicate conceptual designs and specifications to stakeholders. Conducts prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and collects and analyzes data for improvements. Analyzes and troubleshoots mechanical issues or failures to identify root causes and develop solutions in support of the U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) aeromedical research and development. This position is 100% onsite in Fort Novosel, AL.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of zero to two (0-2) years' relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and other scientific and administrative tasks in the field of biomedical engineering.

Assists with acquiring, analyzing, and evaluating data gathered during research.

Requires knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the particular field.

Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job, including but not limited to relevant standard operating procedures, national standards of research technical accuracy, and/or other written guidelines provided.

Reads, understands, and executes techniques and procedures within the quality standards and timelines prescribed by the research plan.

Records all laboratory procedures, relevant project data, and results in government-authorized notebooks and electronic systems in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of zero to two (0-2) years' relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. Regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms to handle objects and operate tools, computer, and/or controls. Required to speak and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
