The Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency https://www.laora.org at the University of Miami has an exciting opening for a full time Organ Allocation Coordinator to work in Miami, FL. This position is primarily responsible for the allocation and coordination of donated organs to transplant centers. The OAC acts as the primary liaison with the transplant centers, research facilitates, hospital personnel, and recovery site personnel.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Coordinates the staff in the operating room for local procurements and abroad (i.e. requiring flight transportation) with clinical recovery and preservation of organs for transplantation, and undertakes extensive communications with transplant center, according to established guidelines.
  
• Responsible for making the necessary call to transplant centers to place the kidneys and pancreas, according to the UNOS requirements. This process requires exercising clinical judgment and a good fundamental knowledge of organ viability to allow for efficient and effective organ placement practices.
  
• Maintain current knowledge and enforce legal requirements of organ donation.
  
• Work according to a call schedule of assigned duties and hours and remain within pager radius to assure that response to all pages will occur in a timely fashion.
  
• Be familiar with all medical aspects of organ donation and bring any questions to the attention of the administrator involved.
  
• Have a basic knowledge of the donor medical requirements and contraindications.
  
• Responsible for accurately collecting, recording, and maintaining clinical records of donors and recipients as required by the program in accordance with UNOS and CMS standards and requirements..
  
• Be responsible and accountable for assigned procurement equipment and supplies.
  
• Maintain a current list of contact numbers of all appropriate UM LAORA/ Transplant personnel and updates list as needed. This list will be utilized to contact appropriate personnel based on perfusionist's logistical knowledge of organ donation/recovery process in a timely manner.
  
• Keeps UM LAORA Associate Director of Recovery and Allocation apprised of all local and import organ activity.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Associate's Degree or medical certification, Licensure/Registration, Surgical Technician
  
• Bachelor's Degree preferred
  
• CPTC Certification a plus or ability to obtain after one year of employment
  

Experience:

• 1-3 years clinical experience/critical care experience
  
• Relevant combination of education and work experience will be considered
  
• Hospital Operating Room and/or Surgical Tech experience preferred.

• Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills
  
• Able to work with a variety of individuals from different professional disciplines
  
• Work effectively in a surgical service environment.
  
• Requires excellent interpersonal skills and clear written and verbal communication skills.
