Compensation: $24.54/hourly
The Outreach and Education Specialist engages community partners, youth at risk for suicide, and families to provide education and connection resources. They are responsible for executing all outreach and education activities to meet the goals of the SAMHSA-funded Garrett Lee Smith State/Tribal Youth Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention (GLS) Program.
This is a full-time benefit eligible position that will work Monday-Friday days; however, the schedule may extend into the evening hours at times. There may also be evening or weekend events. This is a hybrid position working both in the community and remotely.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - JOB SPECIFIC:
* Employ creative outreach strategies to engage youth at risk for suicide, with an emphasis on
outreaching high-risk populations including adolescent black males and LGBTQIA+ youth
* Provide referrals to resources and connection to ongoing behavioral health services for youth
who are at risk for suicide
* Partner with the Missouri Department of Education (DESE) and school districts to provide suicide
prevention activities within the school system, including training, education, intervention, and
referral
* Provide immediate support and resources to families from the Suicide Prevention Resource
Center (SPRC)
* Create a formal youth suicide prevention and training program to be utilized throughout the
duration of the grant and that can be replicated by other organizations
* Develop and provide targeted training and education related to youth suicide for identified
community partners, such as school systems, educational institutions, juvenile justice systems,
hospital systems, public health systems, and other child and youth support organizations
* Conduct evidence-based training presentations on suicide and overdose deaths
* Keep organized records of all trainings provided, including conducting post-training
evaluations
* Communicate program statistics in a timely fashion to the Project Evaluator for grant
reporting purposes
* Assist with focus groups with high-risk populations to develop best practices for suicide
prevention
* Ensure compliance with HIPAA and security of protected health information collected during
the project
* Travel in state for educational presentations
* Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in human services or related field preferred.
* 2 years of experience working with youth in a social service setting preferred
* A valid driver's license and agency established minimum automobile coverage required
