SUMMARY
Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Payroll Tax Accountant. The Payroll Tax Accountant is responsible for activities of the payroll tax function to ensure the timely and accurate remittance and reporting of federal, state, and local taxes in accordance with governmental regulations. Reviews the accuracy and completeness of postings and reconciliation of various tax withholdings. This position is the payroll staff resource for questions regarding tax set up in the payroll systems
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with planning, developing and implementing policies and procedures to facilitate the accurate and efficient reporting and payment of tax liabilities
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Research, resolve and communicate complex payroll tax issues
- Reviews payroll postings to ensure complete and accurate posting of expense and liabilities
- Sets up payroll system for accurate taxability of earnings and accurate withholdings
- Works with the payroll staff to correct tax errors and assists in department education efforts regarding taxes
- Assists with acquisition initiatives related to payroll and employee integration.
- Participates in and coordinates internal and external audits of payroll controls, tax data and records
- Prepares, reconciles and submits tax files to third party vendor
- Coordinates yearend activities with department leads including preparing W2's
- Acts as back up for other team members
- Other duties as assigned

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO's) - Two years payroll tax filing/reconciliation experience
- Bachelor's degree - Accounting or Business. Relevant payroll experience may be substituted
- Experience with multi-state, multi-entity employee population
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics - Working knowledge of government compliance with all Local, State, Federal, Wage & Tax Laws including
FLSA
- Ability and skill to aid with system upgrade/implementation
- Knowledge of Accounting concepts and Control Procedures
- Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Extremely detail oriented
- Ability to prioritize projects, work quickly, establish deadlines internally and with external business
customers, and meet those deadlines
- Action-oriented: Must demonstrate a capacity to operate successfully in a fast paced, changing
environment to make fact-based decisions and implement recommendations quickly to drive for
continuous improvement
- Communication skills: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively
Preferred: - Preferred: Two years' experience using Deltek Cost Point
- Preferred: Experience with ADP services or other third-party tax services
- CPP designation preferred

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
