Tu/We/Th/Fr - 3:00pm to 11:00pm including 30 minutes unpaid lunch
Sa - 7:00am to 3:30pm including 30 minutes unpaid lunch
Days off Sunday & Monday
Pay rate $46.70 Master Mechanic/Mechanic A (Master Plumber license)
$44.45 Mechanic A (Journeyman license)

Incremental hourly increases will be granted if required by management at a rate of $1.10 Hour for:

  • Drinking Water operator- Class 1 Distribution (1D)
  • Drinking Water operator- Class 1 Treatment (1T)
  • Drinking Water operator- Class 2 Distribution (2D)
  • Drinking Water operator- Class 2 Treatment (2T)
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The candidate must be mature, adaptable and have the ability to work pleasantly and tactfully with fellow employees, faculty, students and staff; and must be able to carry out all the essential duties and responsibilities of a Licensed Plumber. The position will demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work process and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This work covers but is not limited to repairing and maintaining campus plumbing, waste, distilled water, RO water, acid waste, eye washes and showers, gas, piping systems, fixtures, equipment associated with plumbing and maintaining licensing for potable water supply system.
  • Must be able to perform all work associated with a Journeymen or Master Plumber license and Water Operator license.
  • Perform all work associated with the Plumbing Group including repairs and maintenance of plumbing fixtures and associated equipment.
  • Work on plumbing and gas related kitchen equipment.
  • Work on gas boilers and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot gas heating systems and gas kitchen equipment.
  • May need to respond to emergency call-in situations after hours and on weekend.
  • Assign, coordinate, and inspect work as needed.
  • Review possible projects, order supplies, plan work, communicate with trade personnel and customers.
  • Plan and program sequence of tasks for completion by Department.
  • Respond to and assess emergency calls at the request of Campus Police or the duty manager. Stabilize if possible and make a work order for a follow up repair.
  • Inputs data into the computerized work order system, recording time and work order information.
  • Maintain time and production records. Estimate, requisition and inspect materials.
  • Requires first response for various issues including stabilize and remedy the situation as needed.
  • May be required to assist other trades as directed.
SKILLS:
  • Strong computer skills, knowledge of MS Office including email and electronic calendars, work order system software concentrating, competent problem-solving and project management skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work, takes initiative, resolve problems, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience working with water related computer programs such as SCAD and others.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels in a demanding environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to act decisively and independently to resolve complex issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five (5) years Licensed Journeyman Plumber.
  • Preferred - Hold a Massachusetts certified Operator of Drinking Water Facilities-Grade IT,ID &2D.
  • A valid driver's license is a condition of initial and continued employment. Operate assigned equipment and vehicle.
  • Experience in a college environment is preferred.
  • Ability to speak English. Understand and follow written instructions. Communicate clearly and concisely and be able to relay instructions and directions to others.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Able to withstand long period of walking, standing, twisting and lifting.
