Position Overview

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (htts://ece.osu.edu) at The Ohio State University invites applications for the position of Ohio Research Scholar in Sensing Systems, a tenured faculty position at the rank of full professor. The research area is broadly defined to apply to different areas including, but not limited to RF, mmWave, sub-mmWave systems, electro-optical systems, sensor signal processing, and others. Successful applicants are expected to establish synergistic intellectual bridges between multiple groups such as ElectroScience Lab, Solid State, Circuits, Power and Energy, Signals and Systems, Networking, and Control.

The position is open to applicants who may require sponsorship for a visa or other work authorization.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required:

  • A Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field. Ph.D.
  • Evidence of demonstrated efforts in research, teaching, and/or outreach and engagement that reflect Ohio State's Shared Values.
  • Evidence of the ability to attract and mentor graduate students
  • Evidence of the ability to teach and supervise undergraduate students in an inclusive way (all learners are valued and feel a sense of belonging)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with desire and ability to work constructively, decisively, and collegially with external and internal colleagues
  • A demonstrated track record of leadership and collaboration in an academic environment.

Desired:

  • Experience with interdisciplinary research and education.
  • Experience with engagement with industrial or government partners for external funding.
  • Strong record of an externally funded and productive research program.
  • Experience and training in mentoring and teaching skills.
  • Embrace development of open-minded exploration among learners

Electrical and Computer Engineering:

Consistently ranked among the best in the nation, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) provides superior training for students and groundbreaking research at the frontier of high technology in all areas of electrical and computer engineering. ECE faculty, researchers and students engineer solutions to problems in diverse fields, from bio- to nanotechnology, from energy to mobility, from health sciences to communication, and beyond. The Ohio State University has the top ranked ECE department among Ohio universities, according to U.S. News and World Report. The faculty body of the department consists in fifty tenure -track faculty, six research-track faculty and five clinical faculty, and sports thirty IEEE Fellows and one National Academy of Engineering member. The department's faculty and researchers are active in the areas of analog and RF electronic circuits, communication and signal processing, computer and digital systems, computer vision and image processing, control systems, machine learning, electromagnetics, remote sensing, microwaves, optics and photonics, nanotechnology and electronic materials, robotics, intelligent transportation, networking, sustainable energy, and power systems. In fiscal year 2020, this research was supported by $20.9 million in externally sponsored funding.
