Job Summary:
This role is responsible for direct patient and caregiver education in the rehab setting to prepare the patient for discharge to home. This role will collaborate with serviceline programs to ensure consistent education across the continuum and facilitate improved patient outcomes. This role is additionally responsible for orientation, education, development and competency of all staff in the Rehab Services department. The Rehab Educator identifies opportunities for staff development and patient teaching, based on on-going, systematic assessment of needs; develops and evaluates programs to meet these needs. Participates in and facilitates teaching programs internally and with other departments including the coordination of student/clinical experience affiliates. This individual may provide assistance to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
A minimum three years of recent applicable clinical practice experience as a therapist is required. Inpatient Rehabilitation related experience and awareness of Inpatient Rehabilitation care service lines and programs is preferred.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree from an accredited PT or OT or SLP program is required.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:
Strong interpersonal skills essential in order to provide patient education, to maintain communication between all members of health care team, to assist staff in reaching professional potential, to maintain good working relationship with other hospital personnel and outside health professionals. Analytical skills required to problem solve organizational and patient related problems. Possess educator qualities such as effective time management and effective oral and written communication skills. The ability to be flexible and adaptable to diverse clinical needs in order to provide for organized, efficient therapy services is necessary.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, or Speech Language Pathologist by the Wisconsin State Department of Regulation and Licensing Medical Examining Board is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required with in 3 months of hire.
