The Department of Center for Genome Technology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 2.The Research Associate 2, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Participates in the publication of significant results. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Perform standard and specialized molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extractions, nucleic acid preparation/quantification, cloning, PCR, nucleic acid sequencing, and other specific techniques as required. Perform quantitation and qualitation of DNA sample by Nanodrop, Qubit and Gel Electrophoresis. Operate various lab equipment including but not limited to centrifuges, hybridization ovens, liquid handling equipment and automation. Perform workflow entry and data record keeping associated with the processing of the samples and ensuring tracking system is functioning and up-to-date. Maintain the continuous flow in the laboratory by ordering supplies and stocking work areas. Demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies and standard operating protocols in a timely manner. Analyze data for quality and consistency, troubleshoot equipment and protocols, prepare reports on progress/trends, and make appropriate recommendations or conclusions to supervisor. Train and communicate procedures in written and/or oral form with the other team members in the lab. Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques.
