Duties: Primary duties include participation in brain autopsy, pathological diagnosis and neurodegenerative disease research on human brains. This includes performing immunohistochemical stains on brain sections, scanning and acquisition of digital images of sections and performing digital image analysis of neuropathological specimens (development and application of imaging threshold algorithms to detect neuropathology on images). Other duties include microtomy, microscopy, maintaining databases, equipment maintenance, ordering supplies and providing other necessary support for the day to day operation of the laboratory. Active participation in scientific projects by data organization and analysis is encouraged. Research Specialist A would assist at autopsy and perform necessary stains required for the patient diagnosis and the generation of the autopsy report.
Qualifications: BA/BS in scientific or related field and 0 to 1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience in histochemical techniques preferred. Requires self motivation, attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work in a professional team environment. Computer literacy, e.g. Microsoft Office. Position contingent upon funding.
