Senior Scientist - IO Discovery

Join our Immuno-Oncology Discovery team at AstraZeneca in Gaithersburg, MD as a Senior Scientist. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong scientific and broad technical expertise in human immunology. Our department is at the forefront of developing immunotherapies that boost immune responses in tumors, with a focus on novel approaches to drug discovery. As a member of our team, you will design, conduct, and analyze in vitro experiments to assess novel immunological mechanisms and therapeutics. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of novel treatments for oncology patients.
Accountabilities:
As a Senior Scientist, you will apply your technical and scientific experience to design, conduct, and analyze in vitro experiments using primary human immune cells. This role is lab based and will be an individual contributor. You will be involved in designing and performing activity assays and mechanism of action studies for therapeutic and tool molecules. You will stay up to date with the latest discoveries in immunology and oncology, sharing your expertise both within and beyond the IO Discovery group. You will also stay up to date with new technologies and assay formats for evaluation of human immune function. You will present findings in multiple group and departmental meetings. You will be expected to maintain accurate electronic records of experiments and ensure that your own work, and work of peers, follows Good Laboratory Practice, Safety, Health and Environment standards and all other relevant internal and external regulations and standards.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Ph.D. in Immunology or related scientific subject area and 2-6 years post-doctoral and/or industry experience in immunology based role
- Strong background and experience in immunology
- Proficiency in isolating/culturing primary human immune cells (T cells, NK cells, and myeloid cells)
- Experience with primary cell functional assays such T cell/macrophage/neutrophil cell-dependent cytotoxicity experiments
- Strong understanding of T cell and myeloid biology
- Extensive experience with multi-color flow cytometry
- Experience with ELISA assays and multiplex cytokine assays
- Proficiency using Excel, GraphPad Prism, and FlowJo for data analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong data management and record keeping skills
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Experience with in vivo mouse tumor models
- Experience with biochemical assays such Western blots
- Expertise with complex, multi-cell type, functional assays
- Familiarity with industry style timeline management and proven ability to plan and deliver results accordingly

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $105,875 to $158,812. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
