Meet the team:

Are you interested in being involved in both hands-on large scale polymer synthesis and the analytical testing of the polymer? Then come be part of the building of a new team at the Dexcom Mesa facility! We are looking for a Polymer Chemist who is not afraid to "roll-up their sleeves" to be involved in the daily polymer production, along with executing testing of the polymer. This position is part of the build out of a new facility and team and provides an opportunity to be part of developing the departments framework.

Where you come in:

  • You will be involved in the day-to-day operators of the polymer synthesis, including working with a large reactor (>1 gallon), size reduction technologies and extrusion.
  • You will provide support and guidance to the lab technicians in the area who are involved in the polymer production.
  • You will perform analysis of the polymerization operation to help Engineering in optimizing the process through your understanding of different polymerization process (bulk/neat, solventborne, waterborne).
  • You will help with providing daily reports on KPI for the synthesis of the polymer to management.
  • You will assist in process development, process validation or process improvement as needed.
  • You maintain a safe working environment and adhere to safety protocols and 6S practices.
  • You maintain accurate records for all production activities, including in-process test results, deviations, and reports.
  • You will lead/support investigations of deviations or results that are out-of-specification.

What makes you successful:
  • You have experience in step-growth polymerization and reaction mass balancing - including how to tune block structure (degree of polymerization and Carother's equation).
  • Experience with extrusion compounding is a bonus.
  • You will be familiar with working in a GMP/GLP environment - preferably under a regulated system.
  • You have a mechanical aptitude (knowledge of tooling, tri-clamp fittings, NPT fittings, adapters, pressure gauges and relief valves).
  • You have experience with design control (DOE), process validation, equipment qualification and test method validations. Lean Six Sigma and familiarity with statistical analysis tools (Minitab, JMP) a bonus.
  • You have experience running analytical methods and instruments used for polymer analysis / characterization such as titration, GPC analysis, Rheology, tensiometer, Thermal Analysis tools and FTIR.
  • You must be willing to provide both hands-on help with the actual polymerization and help in the lab if required.

Experience and Education Requirements:
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5- 8 years related experience or Master's degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience.
