Description:New position for Sterile Processing Educator
POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Manager Sterile Processing, this position is responsible for coordinating instructional curriculum and supporting evidence-based practice to enhance learner's competence throughout SPD. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating education and training of all SPD staff members to ensure appropriate professional development. This individual will also be responsible for coordinating the research, evaluation, and in-servicing of new products. Additionally, this individual will develop, lead, and support the implementation of Process Improvement initiatives and activities within SPD.

  • Act as a coordinator for the orientation process. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate education and training of staff members to ensure professional development. Consult with department leadership for preceptor assignments, new hire schedules, progress, and evaluations.
  • Act as a coordinator by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs to meet the needs of all SPD staff.
  • Develop, lead, and support process improvement initiatives and activities within the department, and support colleagues and staff in quality improvement and research activities.
  • Ensure that department standards are consistent with National Guidelines, Federal and State requirements, and hospital policies and procedures, as well as medical/legal/safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain Job Aids and Competencies for all SPD staff, including the periodic evaluation of staff member adherence to defined Job Aids.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some college is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a Sterile Processing Department is required. Basic knowledge of logistics and inventory management processes is required.
  • Self-direction, motivation, and excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and previous experience coordinating / teaching education programs preferred. Technical computer skills and ability to teach in formal and informal settings is required.
Certification/Licensure:

Current Certification Central Service Technician (CCST) through HSPA OR Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) through CBSPD

Certified Surgical Tech (CST) through AST certification is required.
