We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer to work in our Clean Air Technologies division in our Alpharetta, GA office. The Structural Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design, procurement, and construction process. They will be responsible for adapting structural plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. The engineer will perform these duties under the direction of the Project Manager and department leads.

What you will be doing

Here's an overview of your responsibilities and how you can leverage your expertise:

  • Overall coordination of all structural engineering and design aspects in the project, both internal and external, from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects.
  • Design structural components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the structural engineering practice. mentor and guide less experienced engineers and designers.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.
  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
  • Applies expert knowledge of commonly used structural concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Performs field observation, measurements, or calculations.
  • Ensures the application of all defined Andritz procedures and standards in execution of work.
  • Works closely with other Andritz entities and, in order to strive for common standardization of equipment and designs.
  • Assist with large capital project development, including feasibility studies, project scope definitions, preliminary engineering designs, and capital cost estimates.
  • Supports the elaboration of estimates for pre-contracts for equipment quantities and engineering hours.
  • Determines completeness of project related information and requests information when necessary.
  • Works closely with Sales, Project Engineering and Project Management to ensure all designs are per project Contract requirements.
  • Prepares drawings and other documents/lists required for customer approval, material procurement and for fabrication.
  • Reviews drawings of peers to assure accuracy, best design practices, and compliance with Contract and Andritz requirements.
  • Reviews drawings of vendors to assure Contract compliance.
  • Assists the Engineering team in issuing project documents to the customer, fabricators, etc.
  • Participates in and contributes to project meetings both internally and externally.
  • Participates in project site trips and meetings as required by the project for gathering field measurements and resolving project design issues.
  • Achieves design milestones defined in the project schedule, including design freezes.
  • Adaptions of existing designs in other ANDRITZ entities for the local, US application (US standards)
  • Utilize design standards and practices from other ANDRITZ entities for US organization.
  • Assists sales department with preparation of proposal drawings, material take-offs, etc., as required.

What we are looking for

When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following:
  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Structural Engineering for utility, Pulp & Paper, Metals Industry, etc. of at least 5-10 years.
  • Practical experience in the Air Pollution Control/Clean Air Technologies Industry preferred.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering on capital projects ranging from $500k to $50M
  • Strong knowledge of engineering and design of platework structures, support steel structures, and access
  • Strong knowledge of using structural design and analysis software such as STAAD, Risa, etc.
  • Experience in construction activities for AQC systems on sites.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and similar design tools.
  • Must possess good organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (English)
  • Practical knowledge of North American standards and codes including AWS D1.1, IBC, etc.
  • Knowledge of DIN/ISO/EN standards is an asset.
  • Legally entitled to work in the USA on a full-time basis.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international (up to 15%).
  • Open minded and willingness to work in cultural and geographic diverse teams.
