Financial Planning Teaching Assistant Professor

Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics

College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

WE TRANSFORM LIVES.

Everything we do is designed to improve the quality of life of the people in the state of Illinois, across the nation, and around the world. We discover, develop, translate, and disseminate knowledge to address societal concerns and train the next generation of experts and leaders in a way that empowers them to expand the boundaries of science to higher levels of understanding and influence.

Be a part of our story.

The Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics (ACE) at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invites applications for a full-time academic year (9-month) teaching position in Financial Planning. The Illinois Financial Planning Program (FPP) is housed within UIUC's ACE department. FPP is a key engine of growth for UIUC's College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES). Over the past five years, FPP has nearly doubled in size, growing from a total of 81 majors in Fall 2017 to 179 in Fall 2024. In light of this growth, ACE seeks to hire new teaching faculty to support the program's continued success. We invite you to join us in building a world-class program and shaping the minds of the next generation of Financial Planners.

Responsibilities:

Candidates for this position should:

1. Be confident teaching various financial planning topics, preparing students for FINRA exams (Series 65 and SIE) and developing courses to prepare students for working with high-net-worth individuals.

2. Develop additional courses to further the mission of our program, department, and college.

3. Have a strong desire to contribute to a premier Financial Planning program, including participating in or leading educational opportunities for students. These may include UIUC's Financial Planning Day, attending regional and national financial planning conferences with students, developing relationships with current and future student employers, and other service work that promotes our students, program, department, college, and university.

Qualifications:

We seek highly qualified applicants with a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The ideal candidate possesses a terminal degree (PhD in Financial Planning or related fields; JD or DBA considered). Prior work experience either teaching estate planning or working with wills, trusts and philanthropic clients is preferred. CFP, CFA, CPA, ChFC, CLU and other appropriate designations are valued.

Appointment Details:

This is a renewable, full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position on an academic year (nine-month) service basis paid over twelve months. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in financial planning, finance, economics, business, or other related field.

Start Date:

The starting date is as soon as possible.

Salary:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary range for the position is $85,000 to $90,000. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the full range for a position.

Application Procedures:

To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 6:00 pm (CST) on January 4, 2025 (extended). Applications must be submitted by visiting http://jobs.illinois.edu

The application package should include the following: a) cover letter, b) curriculum vitae or resume, c) teaching statement, d) diversity statement, and e) names/contact information for three references.
