Indiana University seeks a university director of student wellness and wellbeing within the university-wide Office of the Vice President for Student Success (VPSS). The VPSS portfolio is both the strategic home for student success initiatives, as well as a collaborative partner for campus-based student success teams. Job Summary

The university Director of Student Wellness and Wellbeing provides leadership and strategic direction in the areas supporting the physical, intellectual, mental, emotional, and social wellness needs of students across IU's campuses. This role reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement and Wellbeing within the Office of the Vice President for Student Success.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with and convene campus partners and communities of practice to develops, implements, and assesses student-centered and national best practices that enhance student wellness.
  • Creates and implements IU-wide initiatives that address the wholistic wellness of all student populations.
  • Promotes health services and health equity resources across IU.
  • Serves as a key member of the Office of the Vice President for Student Success (VPSS) Leadership Team and leads/serves on other critical university-wide committees, task forces, and focus groups.
  • Provides vision, leadership, and direction for university-wide efforts to address the wholistic wellness and wellbeing needs of all Indiana University students.
  • Convenes IU-wide mental health, wellness, and wellbeing initiatives. Including but not limited to helping coordinate the Mental Health Advisory Council and facilitating communities of practice aimed to advance comprehensive student wellness.
  • Facilitates activities to ensure progress is made towards accomplishing the objectives detailed in the Student Mental Health Initiative.
  • Works with VPSS leadership in conjunction with campus colleagues to develop trainings, professional development opportunities, educational programs, and workshops to equip staff and faculty across IU in supporting the wellness-related needs of our students.
  • Maintains regular communication with all campus constituencies to share best practices, problem solve, and amply opportunities and successes on matters pertaining to student wellness and wellbeing.
  • Assists campuses across IU in the promotion of health services and health equity resources.
  • Serves as a liaison between external vendors providing IU-wide service platforms and our individual campuses.
  • Assists in the creation and dissemination of relevant data and impact reports to help inform initiatives both at the campus and university-wide levels and inform student-choice concerning engagement activities.
General Responsibilities
  • Contributes on senior leadership teams to formulate strategic planning and the highest-level operational objectives for student support areas.
  • Establishes long-term business plans and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Directs leadership staff who provide supervision to student support teams.
  • Responsible for escalated operational issues, including human resources and/or people management situations.
  • Drives innovation, inclusion, and excellence within the area of student support; reviews and creates policies and procedures.
  • Determines overall budget for student support teams; reviews and approves financial proposals from direct reporting leaders; has significant fiscal responsibilities that require frequent interaction with executive leaders.
  • Provides expertise and identifies grant and/or funding opportunities; develops business relationships across the university and externally.
  • Stays up-to-date on new student support standards, technologies, policies, and procedures and works collaboratively with other student support leaders across departments and/or campuses in determining standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures; ensures the adoption and implementation by direct reporting leaders.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field
Preferred
  • Ph.D. in higher education student affairs or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 5 years in student support, higher education student affairs, or related field
  • 3 years of management experience in relevant field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Travel is required between Bloomington, Indianapolis, and the regional campuses throughout the state as needed/directed.

Advertised Salary

$95,000 - $115,000 per year based on education, skills, and experience
