Earlham College is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Department of Mathematics at Earlham College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in applied mathematics beginning in Fall 2025. The position is open to candidates in any area of applied mathematics. The successful candidate is passionate about teaching mathematics to small classes of engaged students and has a plan for continued scholarly work. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can teach courses in differential equations, mathematical modeling, and statistics. Moreover, candidates should be willing to take advantage of opportunities to participate in and contribute to the Earlham community.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Things you will do:

  • Teach three courses per semester.
  • Support our diverse faculty, staff, and student body. Earlham is committed to working toward being a just and equitable campus. Teachers are expected to support all voices and build empowering classrooms, especially for marginalized groups.

Things you may choose to do:

  • Perform original research with Earlham's undergraduates during or between semesters. The College has a range of research facilities and opportunities for internal and external funding support.
  • Grow as a teacher. Earlham is committed to the classroom experience and thus provides ample opportunities to improve your pedagogy. These chances come internally, through formal mentorship, and externally, through funded workshops and conferences.
  • Develop professionally. Among other areas, a position at Earlham offers the chance to be an informal undergraduate mentor, participate in Earlham's community governance process, learn to write grants, etc. The position also includes access to scholarly travel funding for conferences.
  • Participate in on- and off-campus activities. Earlham professors regularly attend sports and music events, lead off-campus trips, and support each other and the student body outside the classroom.
Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. or ABD in mathematics or a closely related field.
  • A demonstrated passion for and experience in teaching excellence.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
  • Be a positive example and resource to all Earlham Students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ability to teach courses in Ordinary Differential Equations, Mathematical Modeling, and Statistics.
  • The ability to contribute to the Data Science major or other affiliated majors such as Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Biology, etc.
  • Research experience with undergraduate students.
  • Interest in engaging with the broader Earlham community.
