Position Summary:

This position will provide oversight for data collection and evaluation methods that help the University Counseling Service measure progress towards well-being and mental health priorities. The position will also provide administrative support to area directors and engage in program evaluation, data management, and the development of outcome and assessment reports. The role requires the individual to have knowledge and experience with solving problems and answering questions using large data sets. Assists the Administrative Services Specialist and maintains files to include highly sensitive and confidential information; may assist with updating the UCS website and social media outlets, while assisting with backup coverage for the overall front desk operations which require scheduling clinical appointments, face-to-face and telephone contact with persons in crisis.

Specific Job Duties & Tasks:

  • Create robust data collection and evaluation methods that help the UCS measure progress towards well-being and mental health priorities.
  • Create and implement a shared measurement system that will track common outcomes and indicators and analyze results to inform learning and continuous improvement.
  • Analyze data, interpret findings, and make information as useful as possible for practitioners and decision-makers.
  • Assist with creating monthly, semesterly, and/or yearly progress reports for internal, campus partners, and external audiences.
  • Assist in development processes related to the UCS'S strategic priorities around well-being and mental health.
  • Assist the director and area directors to liaison with campus partners and student groups, continuously engaging important partners through communication, facilitation, and data to ensure alignment of strategic goals with community needs and assets.
  • Identify opportunities for the use of data-driven decision-making and ensure that data is collected, integrated, and communicated effectively across the organization.
  • Analyze assessment data and make recommendations for program and policy changes.

As part of the Division of Student Life, University Counseling Service provides support and mental health services to the University of Iowa campus community. UCS has an inter-disciplinary multicultural staff of psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, graduate interns, practicum students, and administrative professionals. Our training and interest span a broad range of counseling approaches. Our mission is to provide compassionate psychological services, training, and outreach that fosters the mental health of students, nurtures student success, and contributes to a safe, welcoming, and multiculturally-aware campus community.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the position plus typically 3 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience; Associate's degree in a field relevant to the position plus typically 7 or more years of related experience.
  • Experience (typically 3-5 years) conducting consultations related to achieving outcomes and service/program assessment.
  • Experience creating and implementing assessment plans, including determining methods, developing surveys and other instruments, gathering and analyzing data and communicating assessment results.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively transmit and interpret information through appropriate communication with internal and external customers (i.e., websites, blogs, newsletters, and assessment reports).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and various social media applications.
  • Commitment to and alignment with the values of the Division of Student Life, including demonstrated active commitment to creating and maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Experience using statistical software, such as SPSS or SAS.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a field relevant to the position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in higher education setting.
